Tried To Smuggle Marijuana Into Prison

Twenty two year old Lyle Lambey, an employee of the Ministry of Works who allegedly tried to smuggle 360 grams of cannabis concealed in 5 foam plates into the Belize Central Prison, was charged with drug trafficking when he appeared today in the # 2 Magistrate's court.

Lambey pleaded not guilty to the charge. Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser offered him bail of Six Thousand dollars, which he met.

His case was adjourned until May 17th. Police reports are that Lambey went to prison yesterday with 5 foam plates containing cannabis concealed in food, to give to an inmate. When Lambey reached the search area, he was informed that it was suspected that he had cannabis. A search of the foam plates resulted in the discovery of the cannabis amounting to over 12 ounces.
