Butane: Regulate!
posted (March 17, 2011)
Tomorrow is the day 7news has been pushing for since February eighth when we ran our first story revealing the big butane scam.

Well, mission partly accomplished: as of Friday March 18th it will be the law that all butane suppliers should have scales at their place of business and all motor vehicles used for delivery of butane must also be outfitted with weighing instruments. All those scales must be registered with, approved by, meet the standards of, and be stamped by the Belize Bureau of Standards with a verification sticker before it is used for trade. The scales will also be sealed at the point of verification.

And the law states clearly, quote:

"It is prohibited for any person to use a weighing instrument that is not clearly visible to the purchaser." Any butane seller found ignoring the new regulation is commiting an offence and is liable to a penalty of five thousand Belize dollars and or imprisonment of 6 months or both.

Ok, like we said that's halfway there….the next discussion is about redress for consumers who've been systematically gypped over the years. We now intend to start that conversation….
