Paul Perriot’s Resurgence
posted (March 29, 2011)
Paul Perriot resigned from Telemedia near the end of February - but in an unlikely twist he's once again emerged as president of the Belize Communication Workers Union.

An election was held on Saturday where Senator Perriot won easily. But that unlikely end started with an unwelcome beginning as Perriot was barred from entering the compound where he once worked.

The election was held at Telemedia's Esquivel Telecom Center on St,. Thomas Street and best reports suggest outgoing president Mark Gladden did not put Perriot on the list of invited guests.

So, the event started with a standoff, as Perriot was barred entry by security - who did not have his name on the list. Higher up's in the company were contacted and they permitted him entry. And he says that when he got in, he did not even expect to run for president:…

I never plan that I would have been park here for over an hour not allowing anybody else to enter the compound but I guess that's one of the divine directions that come out of nowhere and I could say definitely that I didn't come here today run for presidency. It is something that I never thought that I was going to do and I know that when my wife hears that that is what I did, I more than likely will get scolded but I guess it's just something. This morning I sat and I prayed over this entire meeting and I prayed that the proper people be put into the leadership of the union. The executives that were definitely remove today in more than certain terms said 'Paul can't run for the president of this union anymore, he shouldn't be, he shouldn't be allowed to' I was even told that I was not a union member which is contrary to our constitution and was cleared up today."

The election was supervised by the national trade union congress and the ministry of labour….
