Man Brought From ‘Griga To Be Charged For City Robbery

Almost 6 weeks ago, we told you about an armed robbery at Belize Recycling Company on St. Jude Street in Belize City. Today, a Dangriga man was charged for it.

He is Twenty year old Akeem Castillo a fisherman of 27 Mopan Street and he was charged with attempted murder in the #2 Magistrate' court.

Castillo was also charged with use of deadly means of harm, robbery and wounding. Because it is a firearm offence, no plea was taken and he was remanded into custody until May 19th.

The robbery occurred around 3:20 P.M. on February 28th, and Mayra Gilharry, an employee of the company, reported to the police that while she was at work two men entered and one of them pointed a firearm at her. Gilharry said the other man tied her hands behind her back and taped her mouth, while the gunman stole Two Thousand Two hundred dollars from the cash register. She told police that the other man cut her throat with a knife and stole her purse containing Three hundred dollars and her cell phone. The men then made their getaway on bicycles. On Wednesday, April 6th, Castillo was detained by the police in Dangriga and brought to Belize city and charged.
