Officer Gets Canadian Training

A Police officer is off to Ottawa Canada, but not to learn about crime scene techniques or interrogation methods, Constable Leroy Hernandez is going to learn about domestic violence.

It may not be the sexiest part of policing, but it is often the most complicated and his sponsor, the Women's department says there is much to learn:…

Cynthia Williams, Human dev. Coordinator - Women's Department
"It's providing an opportunity for an officer who works within the domestic violence unit to do an internship with the police officers from Ottawa Police Services Department in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada."

Leroy Hernandez, Police officer
"I hope that when we get there, we get the training that we need, then I can bring it here and apply it to our every day job and also give training to other officers so that we can tackle these issues in Belize City."

Cynthia Williams, Human dev. Coordinator - Women's Department
"So it's really an opportunity for them to come together to hear about the group practices and for them to be able to get a sense and other different set of skills and bring it back to the country and be able to train other police officers in a way to strengthen the department."

The officer will join counterparts from other Caribbean Countries….
