The People Who Carved The Jadeā€¦
posted (April 20, 2011)
Belize's Jade Head is one of the most well-known masterpieces of pre-Colombian Mayan art - but jade, generally, was the most precious of stones to the Maya.

You've seen the masterful creations, but what about the people who made them? And why did they make them? That's the subject of a new book and exhibit launched at the Museum of Belize today - and Shaunice Heusner told us more about The people who carved the jade and their descendants.

Shaunice Heusner
"It uses the current artifacts that we had upstairs but it takes them from just being artifacts again in a display. Now it takes them and its explain the story about the people who created them and who also created the jades of Belize. Most of them are the piece that originally was here but they just had a little small caption. Now this exhibit tells you the story about the ancient Maya and also the Paleo Indians and the Archaic people."

The project was funded by Unesco.
