posted (April 27, 2011)
A jury of 9 women and 3 men deliberated for just over four hours today in the court of Justice Herbert Lord before it found 40 year old Glenford Bermudez, a.k.a "Bucket", guilty of the murder of his wife, 41 year old Racquel Requena Bermudez.

Justice Lord has deferred sentencing until Thursday, May 12.

Racquel Bermudez, a taxi driver and mother of 7, was shot to death around 1:30 p.m on November 22, 2007, on the Burrell Boom/Hattieville Road between the round-about and Belize Central Prison.

She was driving her car coming from prison when Bermudez, who was coming from the opposite direction, swerved his car in front of hers and forced her to stop. Bermudez then got out of his blue car with a shot gun in his hand and shot her in her head from close range.

After the shooting Bermudez tried to hang himself nearby with a wire tied to a tree. Bermudez, a former BDF soldier, gave police a caution statement in which he admitted he shot and killed his wife. The statement was admitted as evidence.

Bermudez gave a statement from the dock in which he admitted that he was at the scene but denied that he shot and killed Racquel. Bermudez was represented b attorney Carlo Mason. Crown Council Sheiniza Smith represented the prosecution.
