Another Execution
posted (April 28, 2011)
And while that teenager's death has again illustrated just how random and senseless gang warfare can be - before the memory could even set in - there was another broad daylight execution, another man shot to the head.

This time it is a 28 year old father of three and 7news was at the hospital when his family got the terrible news:…

Monica Bodden Reporting
It was this Gold Ford Explorer - that rushed a dying 28 year old Kenyon Plunkett to the KHMH around 11:40 this morning -

After he was shot behind his head. His family and friends all gathered outside the emergency ward- hoping against hope that somehow he would survive.

Plunkett's mother arrived shortly after - in tears and disbelief. She met us outside the hospital gate.

Therese Plunkett, Mother
"I only have two sons. My two sons don't give trouble. His name is Kenyon."

For this grieving mother - she still held on to all hope as she walked through the hospital gate to go see her son. But hope was not enough - there was nothing that doctors could have done to save the young man's life.

Plunkett died just minutes after he arrived at the hospital. The news sent a wave of grief rippling across the gathering.

Old Lady
"Oh God.....no....no....oh God."

28 year old Kenyon Plunkett better known as Ba-bun-chi was gunned down execution style - around 11:30 this morning.

It happened on Lakeview Street in front of his worksite. Plunkett who was a mechanic- was standing on a bicycle- talking to someone. When a gun man - walked up to him from behind and shot him in the head.

Only a single shot was fired. According to those in the area, the gunman was not wearing a mask.

And after he finished shooting Plunkett, he simply walked off towards Bannak Street.

Therese Plunkett, Mother
"He was just standing up talking to his boss when the gunman pulls up behind him. He drives through that street every day, he work through that street, they see him. He doesn't have anything with anybody. Never a day when he would come to tell me that this person have problems with him, he is not that type of boy. He is a very knowing person, he is friendly and free handed, that's "babunchi"."

Romie Plunkett, Sister
"They just kill him for nothing - just to say that they have gun and that they can kill somebody. I only have two brothers and my mother have six of us - two brother, only one brother I have now and he is the easy one, he didn't do anything. He have three children, how will the children survive now, I want to know who kill him if they can eat him the same way."

Plunkett is described by many as a loving father to his 3 young children, and a humble Youngman.

According to his family he did not even have a police record nor was he involved in any gang affairs.

Therese Plunkett, Mother
"My son is not a hang out person, he is not a gang banger boy, he is a hard working young man with three kids who lives with his girlfriend on the Boulevard, they have a really nice home. Every day I get to see him, every day he comes by, he is not a trouble boy, he just goes from work to home and his game and music. My son don't bother no one, I really feel it for my son."

His sister vented her anger at the system - And begged for politicians to put a stop to the madness.

Romie Plunkett, Sister
"I just want we get justice or else it will be an eye for an eye because every day the Prime Minister talk foolishness that they will do this and that but it looks like they have to wait until it hits home, they have to wait until one of their children dies or someone close to them dead for them to do something. They either o something or else people will start to take matters in their own hands and it will happen right at the court steps because this is craziness, my brother was a hard working mechanic. If they check the police at the police station - he is not on it because he don't mess with no one and I could swear for him and you could ask anybody around Belize that know him - knows that he is a hard working person and he don't give trouble. They kill him from backwards - he didn't expect that. I just hope that Dean Barrow and the entire UDP government are listening to me right now, either they take it serious and try to do something or else we will take matters in our own hands. This will not be like someone else child that just get kill and left like that. It will happen I am telling you all, so you all just better do something about this."

And even though justice is seldom seen through - this grieving family say they will get it.

Therese Plunkett, Mother
"I just want to get the right justice and I am serious about it because the killer didn't have enough "balls" to shoot him front-on, he was shot back-on. I don't think he should go like that. If I find who did it I will hurt that person."

Monica Bodden
"If you could say one thing top the person who pull the trigger on your son and murder him, what would that be?"

Therese Plunkett, Mother
"It wouldn't be anything nice. I would want him to feel how I feel. Trust me to God I would want to kill him myself because he kill my son for nothing. I would want to ask him why he killed my son. He see my son every day, he works through there. I would want his mother to feel how I feel because the world is round, it really round and I need justice so the police better do what they have to do quick, fast and hurry, because my son is not going like a piece of paper."

Police believe this killing was also gang related and the principal suspects are from a nearby, rival gang….
