Belizean Implicated In Chet Robbery

Mexican police quickly rounded up three suspects yesterday that were involved in a daring armed robbery of a jewelry store in downtown Chetumal.

So why is it news in Belize? Well, of the three men, one of them is a Belizean. They are reported to have held up AIMME jewelry store sometime around 9:15 yesterday morning. Maria Guadalupe del Carmen Aguayo, Manager of the store, told police three men, two of them armed, accosted her as she was opening and threatened her. Aguayo told police that the men forced her and one of her employees into the store, then proceeded to empty all of the display cases, cash registers and jewelry. The men then ran off.

However, the police quickly sealed off the downtown area, where they apprehended the first suspect, 42 year old Belizean, Argimiro Leiva. The other two suspects, Mexican nationals, 39 year old Jaime Pioquinto Analco of Acapulco, and 34 year old Jose del Carmen Cervantes Carballo Guerrero of Campeche were detained as they tried to flee in a taxicab.

Mexican police are said to have recovered 9 thousand dollars in cash, along with 506 pieces of gold jewelry, two handguns, one a .38 pistol with 9 rounds of ammunition, a .380 with 2 rounds of ammunition, 2 16 gauge shotgun cartridges, one knife, two masks, 2 cell phones and the personal documents of the three men. The trio are said to be waiting formal charges by state prosecutors.
