A fire quickly engulfed a house made out of plywood located at number 9782 Franklin Avenue on the Southside of Belize City yesterday afternoon. No one was home at the time of the fire, and the cause of the fire is still being investigated. The owner of the house, Shermaine Galvez who lived there along with her three kids and a grandchild, stopped by our studios today to appeal for assistance from the public, saying she lost everything as a result of the fire.

"I left my house at about 12:10 on Tuesday, and in the afternoon when I was at my mom's house I received a phone call stating that my house has been burnt down, from my aunt. I asked her 2 times, and she told me that my house is burning down, so I borrowed bicycle from my mom's yard, and I went straight to my house. And when I got there, my house was already burnt to the ground."

"When you left the house at around mid-day, did you leave anybody in the house?"
Shermaine Galvez
"No sir, nobody was there. My kids went to school, and I left from there about 2:10."

"Do you have any idea about how the fire got started?"
Shermaine Galvez
"No sir, I don't have any ideas how the fire had gotten started. The fireman said that they are going to try to do a report for me of how the fire started."

"Were you able to rescue items, save any of the possessions from the house?"
Shermaine Galvez
"No sir, I wasn't able to save anything, only what I had taken out for the day."

"Are you receiving any kind of assistance from any agencies such as the Red Cross or the Department of Social Services?"
Shermaine Galvez
"Tomorrow I should be going into the Women's Department, and they are going to help me. I have gotten some help from my friends."
