posted (May 25, 2011)
And while young and old participated in that grand event, on Saturday at the 17th Miss Y Pageant 7 so called "seen-agers" will be vying for the title of the next Miss Y. With only two more days to go the women who are between the ages of sixty and eighty years old have been rehearsing long hours for Saturday's night Pageant and today 7news caught up with them.

Birdy Francis - Trainer, Miss Y Pageant
"This year's Miss Y's going to be really fantastic. You know that crime is just rampant in the city so our theme is "Crime is Not the Way". And they will all have a message for the audience and people especially that crime is not the way. Along with what they are going to add to it, the talent will be from playing the harmonica to their own personal life experiences in dialog form, and the opening number is "I'm Alive". So they're going to really be pushing it and pumping "I'm Alive" with a lot of spirit and personality. And of course you know, "Pretty Woman" is our theme song. So they have to strut to "Pretty Woman" first."

The theme for this year's Miss Y's pageant is Crime is not the way. The pageant will be held 7:30 this Saturday at the Bird's Isle. Tickets are 20 dollars reserve, 15 dollars general and 5 dollars for children. They can be purchased at the YWCA on Saint Thomas Street.

Aurelio Comes "Home" With New Album/Concert

Garifuna Superstar Aurelio Martinez is picking up the mantle where his dear friend Andy Palacio left it.

He's released a new album called "Laru Beya" - which is the follow up to his well-loved 2004 album Garifuna Soul.

It's already been released in Europe and he's been touring to promote it. Now the Stonetree records production is being released in Belize and Aurelio is coming to the place he calls home for a launch concert. We spoke to him about the new album today.

Aurelio Martinez - Artist
"We followed the Watina album, so Andy Palacio passed away, so I said that we have to follow the Andy Palacio work. We have to keep this work."

Ivan Duran - Producer "I feel very excited to be doing this again. Well, Aurelio has been touring since last year, promoting this album around the world. So far the reviews have been excellent. It reminds me a lot of what happened Watina when it came out, this kind of sense of excitement and It's definitely a new sound. It's familiar, but at the same time it very new and fresh. So that, I think, is one of the reasons why it has been well received."

Aurelio Martinez
"Because I know that the Belizean people love my music - love me - I love Belize, so we have a good chemistry."
