City Murder Over Old Beef
posted (June 2, 2011)
At around 10:30 last night, a man was shot in front of his house on North Creek Street while socializing. According to reports, Erwin Staine was in front of his house talking with a friend when two men - who we understand knew Staine very well - rode up on separate bicycles. All four men were talking when suddenly the conversation shifted and the two men who arrived earlier reportedly started bringing up old beef. That was when one of them pulled out a gun and shot Staine to the left side of his chest, left foot and right side of his abdomen. Staine died on the spot. The other friend he was talking to ran into the yard for cover. Today 7news spoke with Staine's sister who asked to appear off camera.:…

Melonie Staine, Sister of deceased
"I don't reside here with them but my sister just call and she told me that my brother was shot so I just got my two kids and we came over. My other sister and brother was at the hospital with him so by the time I got over here they had call and say that he died already. I understand that someone went to see him and they were in a conversation and the person inflicts the fatal injury. I guess it was someone he knows."

"Do you know if he has any kind of enemies?"

Melonie Staine, Sister of deceased
"All of us are adults; I am not really sure what his life is outside. I don't keep track of that. I don't live here with them, so I don't really know. But yesterday he never seem worried or troubled or nothing."

Police have since detained one man and are seeking another in connection with the incident. If you can recall, Staine was charged with drug trafficking in April - after his premises was searched by the Gang Suppression Unit and was led to discovery of a black plastic bag that was buried under the back stairs. Inside that black bag were smaller clear bags - packaged with marijuana.
