Killers Waylaid City Man
posted (June 13, 2011)
There are two murders to report tonight; one happened in Belize city and the other in Xaibe Village, in Corozal. We start in the city where 27 year old Englebert Reynolds was killed in what is believed to be a gang related shooting. Reynolds was killed on Waight Street on Friday night at 10:30. His girlfriend today told us that he was hanging out with friends on Faber's Road - when he left to go to his girlfriend's house - but he didn't get far because a gunman was waiting for him:

Georgia Castillo, Girlfriend
"Apparently as he bang the curve from where he live - his friend who was sitting there says that all he heard was bang! bang! bang! bang!, so much gunshots just went off and when he reach around the area Burt was on his bike on the ground. He said that he pick up Bert and ran with him to the lane to get a ride to the hospital, on their way to the hospital they crash into another vehicle at the round-about and it was then that Bert took his last breathe in his friend's hands."

"I know they wanted to kill him because with the amount of shots that went off - they wanted him dead."

Monica Bodden
"You know how many shots he received?"

Georgia Castillo, Girlfriend
To be honest I don't really know. I only hear that it is about 10; one in his hand - I hear his hands are broken up; he got three in his back and one in his lower rib cage. I have not seen him yet, I don't think I have the strength to go and see him. The way it happens I know they were waiting for him. I always tell Bert that when he is on the streets to be careful because there people who don't like him. Every time I tell him to be careful and to watch how he go around that zone."

Reynolds - who police say was affiliated with the SSG gang - was in the news in April for allegedly holding a gun to a man's head.

A court had acquitted him of an attempted murder charge in 2008. In this case, Police have detained one person and are looking for three others for questioning.
