We in Belize know all too well how strict Mexican gun laws are; in fact, more than a few Belizeans have seen inside of the jail in Chetumal - after they accidentally or purposely cross the Hondo with their firearm.
Well, one Mexican man who is serving a 20 year prison term for illegal weapons possession tried to escape yesterday in a most unusual way: he packed himself into his wife's suitcase and tried to take "a trip to freedom."
But guards at the jail in Chetumal grew suspicious when the woman seemed nervous as she wheeled out the bulging bag.
When they opened the suitcase, the guards found Juan Ramirez folded into the fetal position in his underpants and socks.
Ramirez's wife, 19-year-old Maria del Mar Arjona carried the suitcase because she had been there for a conjugal visit with him.
Well, now, presumably she can have plenty of those, as they both face criminal charges over the bungled escape.
