Public Health On High Alert To Avert Another Dengue Outbreak
posted (July 13, 2011)
The rainy season is in full swing as torrential rains continue to blanket most of the country since the last couple of weeks, and according to the Belize Met office, there's plenty more to come.

And with all the rains come the mosquitoes, carrier of the deadly Tropical disease known as Dengue! This year the Ministry of Health seems to be taking a proactive approach in its campaign to combat Dengue and to avoid any of the bad press it received last year. In a press release issued today, the Ministry says it is embarking on a country wide Ultra Low Volume spraying campaign. The main objectives are to 'reduce the population of adult mosquitoes' and 'prevent the risk of a Dengue outbreak'.

The Campaign, which starts today in the Belize District, will employ a four cycle rotation before moving on to the other districts. The general public is hereby advised to keep their homes open so that the spraying can kill the adult mosquitoes which like to inhabit dark corners in houses. The campaign will conclude on August 28th.
