Price Waterouse Gives The Gift Of Education
posted (July 13, 2011)
Last night we told you how international accounting firm Price Waterhouse Coopers is teaching financial literacy to students and teachers.

It's a part of what they call Project Belize which was launched in 2008 in partnership with Peacework.

The firm has made an important corporate financial commitment worldwide to provide under-privileged youths with educational opportunities through scholarships and grants. It has since built a strong relationship with the Ministry of Education and Youth in Belize, and last night at the Bliss Institute for the Creative Arts, presented a check worth Eighty Thousand dollars to give more than a hundred primary school students an opportunity for a high school education.

Speaker
"Ladies and Gentlemen, these are our scholarship recipients."

T. J. - Price Waterhouse Employee
"First of all, I think as a Belizean, I'm allowed to speak on behalf of the country, and I would like to thank PWC for everything that they have done. I can't begin to explain the impact that these guys are having here in this country. We started in 2008 with a 150 interns and staff, and now we have 200+. This is my third time coming to Belize with the firm, and every experience has been memorable, amazing, and something that I will never forget. To the students, I want to say, 'I'm very proud of you.' You guys are receiving scholarships, and I want you guys to take this as an opportunity to really think about how you're going to shape your life in the future. You have an amazing opportunity to do really great things, and you should be very proud of yourself."

Eileen Klerik - Corporate Resp. Mgr. PWC
"A quick challenge, so I know we've talked a lot this week about responsibility, and this is a fantastic opportunity for you all. So congratulations on your scholarships and your grants. And also challenges, to really reach out take this opportunity for everything is, study hard. Continue to excel academically; make us proud. We have confidence in you; we believe you have great potential. Make Belize proud, and we're behind you 100%. So congratulations on your scholarship or your grants, and we're thrilled for you."

Hon. Patrick Faber - Minister of Education
"The kind of assistance that you have come here to given is certainly a mark of the kind of friendship that you offered to this nation. And we are indeed very grateful to all of you."

This year 200 Price Waterhouse partners, staff and interns are participating in Project Belize, where they will impact approximately 1200 students and many of their teachers. The program runs from July 10th thru the 14th.
