"Reports are that there's been a second incident in the Chiquibul area that involved an exchange of gunfire between alleged poachers and the BDF Personnel. Can you enlighten us on whether this incident actually happened and elaborate if you received any more confirmation that the incident did happen?"

Lt. Col. David Jones - Chief of Staff, BDF
Okay, what I can tell you now, confirmation, there was a shooting incident that did occur on Sunday. A shot was fired close to the area where one our patrols were in the Chiquibul area, which is not far from the Caracol Ruins. I think it's about 600 to 700 meters away from the border. One of our patrol heard a shot fire, and they fired back in the direction where the shot came from. They went to investigate, but they didn't see anyone in the area. So one was hit; no one was injured as far as we know. We have a team now, because the patrol has been walking out of the jungle, so we have team that has linked up with them today, and they're interviewing the soldiers. So as soon as information is received from them, I will be aware, and I could pass on that information."

According to our sources there is a known Guatemalan outlaw who operates in that area.
