Ashcroft Alliance Responds
posted (August 18, 2011)
The Caribbean Court of Justice held its special sitting for the Ashcroft Alliance on Tuesday; government issued a release yesterday and today the BTL employee's Trust struck back.

As might be expected, their release refutes many of the claims made in yesterday's government release. It adds that in that release government demonstrates that quote: "the government means to continue acting above the law." The release states that contrary to government's claim, the injunction preventing the government from selling any more Telemedia shares will not "fall away: once the ninth amendment bill is passed, instead, the trust says, the injunction will continue until the appeal is determined.

And as regards the court's clear declaration that the ninth amendment can be challenged at any time, government says that proves just what it has been saying: that no one will be barred access to the court. But the Trust says that government intended to bar access to the courts and even the CCJ said that the bill tries to bar the court's jurisdiction.
