posted (August 18, 2011)
The 3rd annual - Independence Day Junior Miss- Pageant will be held this weekend. The pageant is organized by a group of ladies - who call themselves "Concerned Belizean Women" and through this event they have been able to fundraise and donate to numerous organizations and charities in Belize. 7news caught up with one of the organizers.

Birdy Francis, pageant organizer
"The organizers are concern Belizean women and we do two functions a year. We do the African Queen International in February and in August we do the Independence Day Junior Miss and this is how we raise money to donate to those who are disenfranchise. We try to support battered women and children. So that's mostly where our money goes. Sometimes we give it to individual students or to churches - if they need it for something special. The program is this coming Sunday 21st August. It's starting at 6 o' clock. Tickets are only $10 and all proceeds go to benefit those who are disenfranchised. The children will be representing their districts of Belize and one caye which is San Pedro Ambergris Caye and they will be coming out in an opening production with a creole girl dance to introduce themselves. After that they will come out in their district costumes and then they have a platform statement where they have done research to educate and inform the audience their district. So they are going to give you all the information about what happens in their district - what's most famous for and why you should go there. Of course we have the visual poi which is the 'evening gown' where they will come out elegant and poi and show you how charming they are."

The Pageant will be held at the Bliss Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday at 6 o'clock in the evening.
