More American Imports
posted (August 19, 2011)
The US Embassy in Belize, and the American Chamber of Commerce Belize today officially opened the annual Made in the USA Exhibit at the Radisson.

The event showcases American products, services, and investments in Belize, while offering an opportunity for Belizean consumers and the business community to sample American made products. It also provides a forum for making contacts in establishing potential business partnerships. The Exhibit has attracted participation from some of Belize's major distributors and retailers of American goods. However, the number of display booths are down this year, and the US Embassy's Political and Economic Section Chief, Joseph Boski, says the recession might have something to do with that.

Joseph Boski, Chief - Political and Economic Section - US Embassy
"There is a little drop off but I think the reason....everyone knows there is a global economic recession from 2009 and I think it impacted especially the real estate business more than other businesses and so I think that's probably the sector that's a little anxious not just in Belize but all around the world participating in trade shows."

"How is this event is supposed to separate itself from the Annual Belize Chamber of Commerce Expo that they do every year?"

Joseph Boski, Chief - Political and Economic Section - US Embassy
"Our event is more tailor made to either US businesses - business owned by Americans or just as importantly Belizean businesses that used some kind of US import or a product or franchise in their business. So we have a much tailored group of exhibitors."

Jim McFadzean
"The exhibition is supposed to target who?"

Joseph Boski, Chief - Political and Economic Section
"The exhibition is for everyone. So if you are watching this, come on down. Its free, it's at the Radisson Hotel. It's all day on Saturday from 9am - 6pm. I hope the weather will be good, so be safe and don't come if it's not safe to come but I am hoping that we will have good weather on Saturday and that everyone can come down. There are lots of small giveaways at all the different booths. There are some items for sale - some high quality items and a lot of good information as well including information about the US Embassy at our booth."

The United States is listed as one of Belize's largest trading partners, accounting for more than a third of Belizean imports and exports. The two day Trade Exhibit on the 5th Floor of the Radisson Villa Wing will end tomorrow at 5pm, weather permitting.
