posted (August 24, 2011)
Mexican Police say they have arrested another Belizean.

23 year old Luis Betancourt Correa is being held in a jail in Cancun after he was charged with assaulting a Mexican national, according to yesterday's edition of the Informativo, a Quintana Roo newspaper.

The victim, Efren Miranda Lopez, reported the incident happened on Sunday, August 21st, in the popular Cruise tourism village of Mahahual - which is north of Bacalar.

Mexican authorities say Correa entered the country illegally and has been living in and around the village without a fixed address for the last six months.

The Mexicans say that Correa who claims to be from the Orange Walk district is linked to one of Belize's well known gangs, The Crips, and that he had served time at the Hattieville prison for robbery, and was released only a year ago.

Correa told Mexican authorities that before crossing the border illegally into the country, he worked at a store in the Corozal Free Zone. Orange Walk Police told 7 News today that they were not familiar with the name Luis Betancourt Correa.
