And while those visitors have major hurdles to clear before they go to the blue hole - one visitor who'd have no problem getting into the country has now run into major problems with the law.

A Canadian living on Ambergris Caye was today remanded to the Hattieville Prison after being charged for two separate incidents including robbery with a firearm.

According to the San Pedro Sun, Conroy Campbell, a resident of an Airstrip Area address of San Pedro Town told Police that on Sunday morning at 3:30 AM, a group of men knocked down his door, stormed into his house and beat him up. Campbell recognized two of his attackers as 52 year old Canadian Mark Elliot Frankel along with 24 year old Belizean Deon Williams.

In the second incident, 37 year old American tourist Marc Boniface reported to police that on Tuesday morning at about 2:30, he was inside an island Night Club when he was approached by two men. One of the men placed an object resembling a firearm to his back, forced him outside and ordered him to withdraw $500.00 from his bank account at the ATM. Boniface complied, got rid of the men, and police later detained two men matching the description and identified them as the same pair wanted for the previous offence

Both men were jointly charged for burglary for the first incident and robbery with a firearm for the second incident. Frankel and Williams both pleaded not guilty in San Pedro Magistrate's Court and were today remanded to prison.

Before taken to prison, Frankel was taken to the Belize City to see if his fingerprints match those of a wanted Canadian National.
