Gales Point Needs Help
posted (August 26, 2011)
And while that storm affected area has gotten relief, Gales Point says they need help too.

That coastal community was right in the path of the storm - but they didn't get any significant structural damage. What they did get though was damage to their water system. That was taken out by a lightning storm and today the chairman of the village water board - who is also the turtle expert we featured last week's aid they need government's help:

Kevin Andrewin - Chairman, Gales Point Water Board
"Well right now, It's rough; I will tell you that it's rough. Just after the storm approached, on the 20th, we had a serious thunder and lightning, and what happened is that burned out the switch box for the water system. So right now, we don't have any water for a few days. So we really need the Government or Belize Water Service, if they have a good licensed electrician that knows about these things, that they check it out for us. So I am calling on the Government to really get the aid, and see what we can do, because the school's opening is close. And we can't have this problem."

Andrewin also called on the Minister of Works to help them clear out a nearby creek which they draw water from.
