The days of so-called dollar diplomacy and budget bailouts may be over, but friendly nation, Taiwan, always helps out with a large cash contribution to the September Celebrations.
And this year is no different; right on cue this morning, the Taiwanese ambassador was at the house Of Culture donating a check for twenty thousand US dollars to the co-Chairperson of the September Celebrations Commission, Dianne Haylock.
We know that the Taiwanese money is usually earmarked for fireworks on the twentieth night but - according to a release from NICH, this year, it will be used for a new initiative, known as "The Street Decor Project" - a plan to prettify the streets for September.
