There is Good news for the Banana industry tonight as the government has responded to the growers request for badly needed funds required to rehabilitate the country's 24 banana plantations which were devastated by two freak storms almost two weeks ago.
The Development Finance Corporation announced in a press release issued today, that a line of credit worth BZ$4,000,000.00 has been approved to assist eligible banana growers to rehabilitate their plantations that were affected by the recent wind storms. The Program, to be known as the Banana Rehabilitation Program 2011, will be administered by the DFC. The DFC says it stands ready to work with all stakeholders in the industry towards the recovery of the plantations, and the further development of the banana industry in Belize.
