"What we are trying to do now, because the doctor's report is indicating to us that this might not be recent so that is why we haven't placed any charges as yet and we are trying our best to get to the bottom of a physical report, which we believe DNA testing will be the easiest way to alleviate any doubts and to make certain that we charged the right person in connection with this incident.

We have gathered specimen for DNA testing and we are hoping to have these results swiftly. I know that the question has come up as to why we haven't charged this man that we detained over the weekend, but it's rather difficult when you are interviewing a four year old. We have re-detained this man, we are questioning him further, we hope to submit his specimen also - his DNA for testing. After viewing the interview of this four year old, we at the police department believe that more has to be done to have the whole picture clearly before charges could be levied against anyone on this matter."

"After going through the interview of this four year old child it would be irresponsible of us to just run out there and charged just one person when other names have been implicated in her statement, so to clear up all ambiguities we have to make certain that we have the correct person, before we put that person's identity out there, which if we are wrong that would cause serious danger to his life."

And so while police tread very carefully - the second disturbing development is that the child's mother has decided to go public - to reveal her own identity.

We view this as unfavorable since it might lead to the identity of the child but it is her explicit wish as she sat with multiple media houses today.

We still concealed her face and her name, but she told us why she is going public:..

"Why are you coming public?"

Mother of 4 year old
"Because this morning I got very disturbing news that they let go the person who rape my baby and I just want to know why they let him go and what is the reason. Now I just got more disturbing news of how the police are saying that it is somebody different. They didn't do their investigation correct."

Marion Ali, Reporter
"The police just told us in a press conference minutes ago that the information suggests that this has been happening to your daughter from before just last week. That is what the medical certification is indicating."

Mother of 4 year old "Yes and I do believe that because my baby does live with my aunt. They are making me angry right now. I just got back my baby from my aunt and the main fact that they are trying to run from - this same person is the same person who went to pick up my baby from school."

Marion Ali, Reporter
"They are saying that they have conducted interviews with both the 4 year old who is your daughter and the allege perpetrator and that the information is indicating that maybe somebody may be coercing your daughter to bring out certain names or a name."

Mother of 4 year old
"Nobody needs to be setting up my baby to say nothing. If somebody is setting her up then why would she continue to say this one name over and over and to different people?"

"Did you take your daughter to the doctor before last week?"

Mother of 4 year old
"No, this is the first time, because this is the first time I see something like this happen to my baby and I know that something was wrong with my baby. The first time I was just accusing when I think of it in my head. I ran jokes with my sister because I have right now a recording in my phone where I heard about this same exact person and I don't know why my family is trying to hide it. They know the whole truth; I don't know why they don't come upfront and say what they have to say because they know exactly what is taking place. I had already figure out that they would have done that because I am not dumb. I know exactly everything that they are playing and I am playing the same game. I will make sure that I am a step ahead of them."

"I understand that a game as you say is being played. But what do you want to come out of this for your daughter's sake?"

Mother of 4 year old
"All I want to come from it for the police to arrest back the person who did it because I am 100% sure and only God can come down and tell me that it is not him. I am 100% know that it is him with information that I got over the past weekend from her own people. I will not call any name but I know everything that is taking place."

"Why are you choosing to come forward at this point?"

Mother of 4 year old
"Because I feel personally - yes the police are doing their jobs, but they one who is dealing with it I personally believe unless I am wrong, I have a strong feeling that she knows my aunt."

Jules Vasquez
"You were not following up on where your child was? Or who she is with? And that you were not paying the right attention. That's what critics are saying."

Mother of 4 year old
"Mostly that is what they are saying because I am bringing my baby out with me but I am not bringing my baby out so she could get hurt. My baby doesn't want to stay at home and if she wants to come along with me then I will bring her because I need to get stuff done and I can't leave this like this. If I stay at home nothing will come out of this, so I have to push it, so I have to bring her."

"Usually we don't do on camera interviews with the relatives, parents or guardians of affected children. Why have you chosen to come forward in spite of it?"

Mother of 4 year old
"Because there are a lot of mothers' who are out there. All I want to tell them is; know who are around you, open up your eyes because Belize is getting dangerous, protect your kids and don't go through this because it's not a nice feeling - it's like you are living in a nightmare."

Marion Ali, Reporter "The case against the allege perpetrator. Are you conceding that you might not get a conviction against the person you believe did it but the bigger message is to give parents or guardians out there that advice you just did."

"All I want to say is that I want something to be done over this and I understand what you are saying. They told me and I think if that is what is taking place then I will say that Belize is corrupted, really corrupted because my baby cannot stand up for herself and I as her mother need to play the role as a mother for my baby."

She says her daughter has seen a psychologist and has asked to stop going to the school where she is currently enrolled. She says she will home school the child.

So presently, one person has been released and another is detained and a DNA sample will also be taken from this person. There are other suspects who will also be sampled.

A doctor has confirmed that the child has been carnally known - and they are analyzing discharge possibly associated with a sexually transmitted infection.

Up to this morning the DPP's office had not been sent the file - even though police glibly and falsely stated that it had been sent. Today, DPP Cheryl Lynn Vidal told us that she only head about the case on the news and called and asked for the file this morning.
