Price Hears Watchers Remember The Great Man

Yesterday the entire nation tuned in to the state funeral for the National Hero George Price. It was an epic event, worthy of The Great Man, and when the hearse made its slow procession to the city, we spoke to some of those who lined up and waited in the sun for hours to catch a glimpse of the hearse. Here's what they told Monica Bodden:..

Interviewee 1 "George Cadle Price led us to our Independence he was kind, independent and he was not selfish."

Monica Bodden
"How about you babe, what do you know about the Rt. Honorable George Cadle Price?"

Interviewee 2
"He was a very good man and he wanted to help the people not everybody else, not give all his money to the government just help the people."

Interviewee 3
"It was George Price who founded Independence; he was the Premier and first Prime Minister of Belize."

Interviewee 4
"He was the first Prime Minister of Belize."

Monica Bodden
"What do you know about Mr. Price?"

Interviewee 4
"He wrote the National Prayer and he wanted the best for Belize and he always do good for his people to show us how he cares for us and loved us and want us to do the right thing and make our country better."

Monica Bodden
"Sir, why do you think that it is important for Belizeans to be out here on this occasion?"

Interviewee 5
"Well the significance of it is that we have a very important person, perhaps the most important person in the history of our country the Father of the Nation that past away and he left a great legacy and I think the more people that appreciate it the more our country will be better off."

Interviewee 3
"He wrote the National Prayer Almighty and Internal God, yes ma'am. He use to go on the road side and pick up papers help Belize, interact with the people. He attended church service every Sunday, he was born on 1919."

Monica Bodden
"Do you know why is the Rt. Hon. George Price was referred to as the Father of our Nation?"

Interviewee 6
"Yes because he gave us Independence."

Monica Bodden
"What else do you know about Mr. Price?"

Interviewee 7
"He was a really special man."

Interviewee 8
"I guess I am not that old to know him personally in the struggles but I knew he was a great person. My family actually knew him and knew the goodness of some of his actions towards him, I am pretty sure they are giving tribute as well because of what he has done for them."

Interviewee 6
"He gave us Independence and he gave us liberty to work and to have a good life."

Interviewee 9
"I know the Honorable George Price, that he fought for our Independence since 1950 and that he was the leader of the People's United Party."

Interviewee 10
"I can't forget Mr. Price and I believe that is the same for quite a number of people. I have had contacts with him at least twice and those are times I will never forget. I remember one time when I was stranded in Hattieville, I couldn't get transportation to Belize City and it was about 12 o'clock in the night and I saw a light in the distance and when the vehicle was close to me, it stopped and when I got into the vehicle it was Mr. Price's vehicle and he chatted with me until we reached Belize City and he has never forgotten me after that time. He should be remembered forever because he was indeed the Father of our Nation."
