OC CIB in Accident; Pol Say No Cover Up
posted (October 4, 2011)
ASP Alden Dawson is the head of CIB in Belize City - but on Saturday night at 8:30 he was in an accident on the Northern Highway. It was what you might call a fender bender; no one was seriously hurt and both sides have agreed to settle out of court. But, there are all kinds of rumors, first of a police cover up and second that alcohol may have been a factor.

Today, the police press officer deflected those criticisms:..

Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press Officer
"The complainant in this accident Mr. Herman Blease Jr. said that after Mr. Dawson hit his vehicle Mr. Dawson stop a little distance from him. He did not flee the scene. Mr. Dawson has acknowledged fault for the accident and I know that Mr. Blease has ask to settle this matter out of court. It is being dealt with. They are dealing with their matter and I cannot say whether or not he was under the influence because he went through the normal process as any other person would by providing a sample that night after the accident."

"Jim, Mr. Dawson will be served with an NIP (Notice of Intended Persecution) like what will happen with any traffic accident and like I said this matter is being settled between the two drivers. The vehicle receives damages to the left front wheel, so it couldn't move freely on its own. It had to be place at a police compound. We will do this with any vehicle involve in any accident and whether or not I don't know what the burning issue is but I know for a fact that Mr. Dawson is being dealt with like any other person involve in an accident."
