Killing In A Quiet Village
posted (October 5, 2011)
And while it may not be related to gang feuding, per se, there was a violent and shocking murder last night.

Shocking because it happened in a quiet village on a sleepy weekday night - and violent because all indications are that it was no accident, or random crime, it was a well-planned and calculated armed robbery of a village shop-keeper - who was robbed of his day's sales and then shot four times.

7news was in Sandhill at the scene of this mystifying crime:

Jules Vasquez Reporting

Police scoured the crime scene for clues last night - they marked and measured the scene.

The scenes of crime team mostly focused on the inside of Myvette's Store - which is in Sandhill on the old Northern Highway about 150 feet from the junction with the Northern Highway.

The proprietor, 43 year old Ernesto Myvette, lay dead behind the counter. Myvette had been shot four times, twice to the midsection, once to the chest and once in the back.

At about 7:45, his attackers came walking on the same old northern road that was lined with onlookers last night. Three men, who parked a car a few hundred feet away, walked in, shot him and presumably stole his licensed 9 millimeter pistol.

Myvette's son ran to his father's aid and as the assailants fired a shot at him as well, but missed. They ran to their getaway car and sped off into the night.

And if you're wondering why police couldn't set up a roadblock to intercept them, well, let's put it like this: their pickup has to be push-started before it carried the body away - a perplexing end to this shop-keeper's life - the father of four was well liked in the community - and friends and family gathered at his property to console each other after the stunning slaying...

Residents say the car was seen circling the area throughout the evening.

So far, police have made no arrests.
