Prison Office Joins Inmate Behind Bars

Twenty five year old prison officer Theodore Patt, became an inmate of Belize Central Prison today after he appeared in the Magistrate's Court on a charge of drug trafficking.

Patt pleaded not guilty to the charge. The prosecution objected to bail on the grounds that the offence involving prison officers accused of attempting to smuggle drugs into prison has become prevalent.

Magistrate Roberto Ordonez upheld the objection and remanded Patt into custody until October 19.the incident occurred around 6p.m on Sunday, October 9. The police reported that when Patt went to Belize Central Prison for work duty the bag he had was searched and the search resulted in the discovery of 310 grams of cannabis. Patt denied that the cannabis belonged to him. He said it was put in his bag by one of two other prison officers who were on the bus with him.
