posted (October 13, 2011)
Teryl Godoy has been painting all across Belize City for the past thirty years. And indeed, his paintings form a sort of visual history of Belize City. In fact, someday when concrete structures replace all the wooden ones - we'll look to his pictures to remember times past.

Tonight, he opened an exhibit at the Bliss Center - and true to his calling card, it's named "Man At Work." He told us about it:..

Teryl Godoy
"This exhibition is about old and new. When I say old and new I am talking about the style that I use to paint in the early days. I use to paint like old wooden houses and stuff. This particular one on Dean Street which is just behind me - it's a painting - they called the guy "snapper" but they are all familiar places that have been around before and so I've been doing all this types of paintings."

"Some series that you see around like the colorful ones - those paintings are paintings that I have done from my mind's eye. I can do one of those very quick because of the length of time that I have been painting over 30 years of experience. I can do a painting very quickly."

Geovanni Brackett, reporter
"You are both an artist; painting and musician. Which of the two do you prefer or you love more?"

Teryl Godoy
"There is no way to describe that as which one I like more, no. The music - the art gave birth to the music because about 1990 when I have exchange a painting for a keyboard and that's when it all start."

The Show will run until the end of the month.
