There was a traffic accident last night involving two UB students. It happened in Belmopan on the South Ring Road near Belmopan Comprehensive High School.
Around 6:15 yesterday evening, 18 year old Gladys Chiac and 19 year old Tiffany Herrera were crossing a pedestrian ramp on South Ring Road - when a blue 4-door Toyota car driven by 31 year old Police Constable Solomon Mas - who is attached to the Belmopan Police Station - knocked them down.
Chiac was flung to the pavement with a large cut wound to the back of her head and one on top of her head while Herrera got a cut wound above the right eye. Both teenagers were taken to the Western Regional Hospital for treatment. Tiffany Herrera was treated and released around 11 last night - while Gladys Chiac had to be transferred to the KHMH. She is listed in a stable condition but according to her family, she has a fractured skull and her brain is swollen. They also told us that she is 5 months pregnant and they are afraid she might lose her child.
As for PC Mas - the family believes he was under the influence of alcohol. Today in a police press release it stated that Mas has volunteered to give a blood specimen for analysis. He was served with a Notice of Intended Prosecution.
