And while the PUP is trying to get a fresh start in general, the UDP is looking to turn the page in Caribbean Shores - as Carlos Perdomo is expected to step down as standard bearer within the week.
Originally, the expectation was that he would name Mike Singh as his successor and that would be the end of it.
But it's not going to be that simple, and the Party has now decided that there must be a convention because there are at least three people interested in taking up the seat - Mike Singh and two others.
Those two are Santi Castillo and Ann Marie Williams. No it's not a challenge to see who'll be the top judge of a certain talent show, it's genuine political battle. Ann-Marie told us that she's already formed an exploratory committee - and is determined to be at least one woman representing on the UDP's slate for the next general election.
Meanwhile, Santino Castillo - who has been itching to re-enter politics after narrowly losing in 1993 in Belize Rural South - says he is assembling his team which will include Roger Espejo - who lost to Perdomo in a convention eleven months ago. Castillo says he has been canvassing Belize City ministers for support.
He says he is good and ready to go.
Now, we stress, all this is kind of happening in a vacuum, because presently - on the official level - there is no vacancy, and Perdomo has still not publicly said that he is stepping down - in fact, he has said he isn't. But despite his protestations, it is an accepted fact amongst the party's power players and decision makers that he is stepping down, and will do so imminently.
Whatever the case, as soon as he does make an announcement, the party is expected to immediately call a convention - and the candidates are expected to have no longer than 30 days to campaign. The accelerated timeline is owing to the likelihood that the general election will be called sooner rather than later.
