Belize Bloods Make Major News In Utah, Chicago
posted (November 4, 2011)
This is 29 year old Jerry Johnson, the man who US Federal Agents say directed the Belizean Bloods Gang in Chicago. He was arrested on Wednesday in Salt Lake City, Utah along with 10 other people associated with the Bloods - while arrest warrants were issued for 8 others.

It was a huge operation: 150 federal, state and local police officers, including SWAT teams from the FBI, Salt Lake City and West Valley City, raided Salt Lake Valley homes starting about 2 a.m. Wednesday, making 10 arrests and an 11th person was apprehended Friday.

All 19 were named in a 25-count federal indictment unsealed Friday in U.S. District Court in Salt Lake City. That is in addition to the 24 alleged associates of the Belizean Bloods brought up on Federal drug trafficking and passport fraud charges in Chicago.

One of those arrested in Utah is Corey Ottley, who we know as a former WASA Employee and brother of Ellington Ottley who has appeared on this newscast previously.

In addition to Jerry Johnson and Ottley, also charged in the Utah indictment are Jonathan Benns, 23; Makayla Walls, 18; Javon Brackman, 35; Austin Herron, 24; Maurice Lee, 48; Bladis Bazoko, 27; Robert McIff, 24; Dwayne McCray, 43; Dana Byrd, 48; Simon Diaz, 31; Luis Diaz, 24; Jerry Hunter, 29; Jameson Debow, 19; Perry Williams, 22; Sammy Levels, 39, and Amy El-Emar, 29, all of Salt Lake City; and Leonard Soberanis, 28, of Chicago.

Soberanis is wanted in Illinois along with 30 year old Sheldon Morales both reputed members of the Belizean Bloods and being sought by police in Evanston Illinois. A police bulletin in Illinois says that both men are considered armed and dangerous.

So what were they doing in Utah? Well according to reports from that state - the Belizean bloods were just looking to gain a foothold in that state.

According to Utah Police, the gang is not easy to detect because it takes a "subtle" and "sophisticated" approach to criminal activity. Belizean Bloods, an officer is quoted as saying won't be found in clubs where drugs are commonly sold. All 11 made appearances in federal court this week. Some were released pending trial, while others remain incarcerated, including alleged ringleader Jerry Johnson.

The Belizean Bloods allegedly trafficked drugs through Illinois, Utah, Ohio, Indiana, New York and California.
