Alleged Weed Traffickers To Court
posted (November 4, 2011)
Two men we told you about last night who were allegedly caught with commercial quantities of marijuana were taken to court today. They are 33 year old Garfield Flowers and 43 year old Phillip Nicholas.

They became inmates of Belize Central Prison today after they appeared in the Magistrate's Court and pleaded not guilty to drug trafficking for almost 40 pounds of cannabis. The prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds that the evidence suggests that there is a strong case against the defendants and that Flowers has several convictions for drug related offences.

In response, Flowers said he is innocent until proven guilty and he has rent to pay and a family to take care of. Nicholas said he is a recovering addict and he is a security guard who has not worked 11 years.

Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser upheld the objection and remanded them into custody until December 15. The incident occurred on Thursday, November 3. The police reported that when they searched Flower's residence, located at 9 Johnson Street, they found 17, 505 grams of cannabis. Nicholas was present at the time when the search was made.
