ALLEGATION: Police Punched Bailiff
posted (November 22, 2011)
And while that police was caught stealing, and another was stabbed, our next story is about a police officer who punched out a court bailiff over drinks.

Forty six year old police sergeant Jose Ortega, one of two police officers who allegedly caused a wound to a Magistrate's Court bailiff, was charged with wounding when he appeared today in the Magistrate's Court. Ortega pleaded not guilty to the charge. He was offered a bail of three thousand five hundred dollars and his case was adjourned until January 16.

The incident occurred on September 16 at a local bar in Belize City. The bailiff reported to the police that Ortega and police constable Leonardo Yama did not like his comment about them drinking in their uniform and Ortega followed him to the bathroom and punched him in his face, causing him to lose a tooth.

He said Yama then came in the bathroom and held him. Both Ortega and Yama were given police bail and were summoned to appear in court on September 27, but only Yama showed up.
