Terrifying Home Invasion Leaves Sixty-Six Year Old Critical
posted (November 28, 2011)
There was another home invasion this weekend. This one was especially brutal - and seems particularly senseless; it happened in the Lake Independence area of Belize City. The victim is an elderly woman and tonight she is in a coma in the Intensive Care Unit. It happened around 3:30 on Sunday morning at the residence of 66 year old Castula Westby. Westby was inside her bedroom sleeping when a man entered through her bedroom window and began stabbing her.

According to a family member, she was stabbed 13 times - 4 to the neck, 5 to the chest area, 2 to her cheek and in her mouth. At the time Westby's daughter and her 3 grandchildren where sleeping inside the house, but had no idea of what was going on inside Westby's bedroom. The attacker did not make his way to any other part of the house and nothing was stolen from inside's Westby's room - including her jewelry which was left on top of her dresser.

When her daughter heard Westby shouting for help, she ran to her bedroom, and saw her mother lying in a pool of blood. Her attacker had already slipped back through the window. The elderly woman was rushed to the KHMH. Tonight she is listed in a critical condition.

It's a terrible and genuinely terrifying story - and it's also sick: the family noted that the attacker appears to have defecated on the back verandah and soiled the entire area with his feces.

Notably, the house where this happened is about four houses from where 8 year old Eyannie Nunez was killed. Police have made no arrests.
