The Much Convicted Conorquie Back In Jail

A habitual criminal is in jail tonight, after he tried to snatch a chain from a woman - but ended up getting beat up by the lady and her friend.

Thirty year old Moses Conorquie a construction worker, who has 10 convictions for crimes of dishonestly, the first on 1999, became an inmate of Belize Central Prison when he appeared yesterday in the Magistrate's Court and was charged with robbery and wounding. Conorquie pleaded not guilty to the charges. The prosecutor objected to vail on the grounds that Conorquie is a repeat offender and if granted bail he will commit other offences. Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser upheld the objection and remanded Conorquie into custody until December 28.

The complainant, Janice Leslie, reported to the police that she and two other women were walking on Cemetery Road near to Pound Yard Bridge when she was attacked by a man who grabbed her gold chain.

The police reported that when they arrived at the scene they saw Leslie and the women struggling with Conorquie. The police said Conorquie ran when he saw them and they pursued him and caught him. Leslie received injuries to her left eye and left arm that were classified as wounding. Her gold chain, which has a value of eighth hundred dollars, was not recovered.
