BDF Says Lisbey Wasn't One Of Them
posted (December 23, 2011)
Last night, we reported that Lisbey was a BDF soldier. Indeed, that's the report that had reached police, but today the BDF confirmed that he had never been a part of their regular element, and they are still searching the records to see if he was a reservist.

Lieutenant Colonel James Requena explained:

Jim McFadzean
"I know that the BDF has taken issue with the fact we reported that the young man who had murdered his mother-in-law and sister-in-law is a former BDF. Why has the BDF taken an issue with that?"

Lt. Col. James Requena - Acting Chief of Staff, BDF
"The reason we have taken issue with it is that no one contacted us to clarify. We have checked our records, and he's never been a member of the regular force. Presently, we are checking our voluntary element records to see if he was ever a member of voluntary element, but as far as our records show, he has never been a member of the Belize Defense Force regular element since its formation in 1978. We have records for all those persons."

We should note that we tried to call Requena multiple times yesterday - right up to news time - to determine whether Lisbey had ever been a BDF soldier, and he did not take our calls.

Lisbey was a hunter by profession and drove a US military Humvee - which may have lent to his reputation as some kind of military man.
