Bastrechea Accused Of Playing Serious Con Game
posted (December 29, 2011)
Elroy Bastarachea has quickly developed a reputation as a ruthless con man - who is accused of preying on US nationals - by setting up fraudulent transactions where they pay and pay, he takes and takes, and they never get anything - except thousands of dollars in debt.. Early this month, CTV-3 News in Orange Walk reported that Bastarachea, had scammed 74 year old U.S. national Sharon Boniek, out of more than $98,000.

Over the course of two years, Boniek says she paid Bastarachea expecting to receive her Belizean Nationality and hundreds of acres of prime land in Placencia, Caye Caulker and San Pedro. Over a two year period, Bastarachea allegedly delivered several land documents to Boniek, but CTV-3 reports that a trip to Belmopan proved that all the documents were false and that the signature of Lands Commissioner Wilbert Vallejos, was forged.

For that, he was charged with three counts of forgery of an official document, 2 counts of obtaining property by deception and 3 counts of obtaining money transfer by deception and was offered bail of $15,000.

That was in lat November, and now another American, 52 year old Victoria Jackson of Consejo Village, in the Corozal District has reported that between 26th August, and 29th September, 2011 she paid Elroy Bastarachea for a computer software and $12,650.00bcy for the purchase of lands in Corozal, San Pedro and Placencia. Just like Boniek, she has not gotten anything. After allegedly paying Bastarachea $15,370 Belize Dollars.

This time he will be charged for obtaining property by deception - and police already have him in custody. According to reports, he had only just managed to meet the first fifteen thousand dollars bail today when the second complainant appeared.
