Since Tillett's passing, there have been rumors that something could jump off, some kind of retaliation. And that's an execution in Orange Walk on Saturday night - has police and the public wondering if that was the retaliation. Monica Bodden has more on the killing of Rodolfo Boxie Perrera:

This quiet Orange Walk neighborhood became a gruesome murder scene on Saturday night - as one of its well-known community members was gunned down execution style in front of his home.

Police scouted the murder scene at number 7 Oleander Street - home of eminent businessman Rodolfo Vidal Perrera.

(15) 9 millimeter caliber shells were recovered from the scene were.

37 year old Perrera, who is the owner of The New Chitos store in Orange walk Town, was shot up in front of his house -while his wife and children were inside.

Police say it happened a little after nine o'clock.

"On the Saturday the 7th of January shortly after 9 pm police responded to shots being fired in the Oleander Street area where upon their arrival at the scene which was at the home of the decease Rodolfo Perrera. The police recovered 15 expended shells that were found at the scene."

Perrera was shot a number of 12 times to multiple parts of his body. He was rushed to the Orange Walk hospital by neighbors and family but shortly after he was pronounced dead.

Perrera - who had just returned home from his store that night - got out his vehicle to open his gate when he was ambushed by 2 men. Neighbors say they heard when the shots rang out and when they looked out they saw two men, one of bicycle and one who was running. They said neither was wearing a mask - all they could recall was both men using warm caps.

"Upon the examination of the body it was discovered that he had 12 bullet wounds. Our investigations initially revealed that the victim had just reached home and in the process of opening his gate he was fired upon by persons who were in the area."

"Our accounts have not indicated whether or not he was followed home but as he was about to open his gate that is when he was fired upon."

"How many persons are you talking about and what caliber of shot did you recovered?"

"It was two persons and it is 9mm caliber shells that were recovered from the scene."

Stolen from Perrera were his wallet, his thick gold chain and his cellular phone. But for this businessman riddled with gunshots…police have more than one reason to believe that his murder may have been more than just an ordinary robbery.

"At this point in time the investigation has not yet really revealed a motive. We know for certain that one wallet is believed to have been stolen, a thick gold chain and a cellular phone."

"Any description of the shooter or shooters?"

"At this point in time in the investigation we do not want to reveal that."

"Do you have anyone in questioning?"

"Yes we have 4 persons detain who we are questioning at this point in time."

"Do you feel you have the trigger man in custody?"

"No, at this point in time we want to say that the investigation is in its early stages and I do not think we would be qualified to say that we have the shooter in our custody at this point in time."

"The person in questioning, is he a police officer?"

"No, not that I know about."

So far police has detained 4 persons in questioning for Perrera's murder and say they have a list of motives to investigate.

Perrera is the cousin of Renan Briceno - who was charged with the murder of 19 year old Dale Tillett.

Tillett was shot at a popular night club in Belize City on New Year's Eve and passed away 4 days later.

There are speculations buzzing around Orange Walk town, that Perrera's murder may have been some form of retaliation for the death of Tillett.

But police say, even though they are investigating also from that angle of things, they are least convinced that there is any truth to those rumors.

"At this point in time we are still trying to locate witnesses and we are putting together our forensic part of the investigation."

"This man was shot 15 times which to me suggest that for a robbery you would be shot 5 times the most. I am just talking my trend here. Shot 12 times indicate to me that they wanted him dead and maybe they just robbed him to make it look like a robbery."

"I would want to say that the facts we are looking at the investigation from a broad perspective and we do not want to speculate whether or not that is so until the investigation proves that that is the case."

"You think this might be some sort of retaliation being that he is family of Renan Briceno?"

"We are not in any position to say that. The police department is not in any position to say that."

"But you are looking into that possibility?"

"That is one of the information that came across, but so far as we know we have not have any evidence to substantiate that."

Perrera's family declined our request for an interview. The 37 year old was a father of three - the youngest child only months old. Two of the persons detained are neighbors to Perera's parents. Those parents have now lost both their children at an early age: their daughter died from cancer in 2008.
