GSU Cleans Up Cayo
posted (January 9, 2012)
On Sunday the Gang Suppression Unit executed an operation in San Ignacio and Santa Elena Town - targeting criminal gang members and alleged drug traffickers operating in the Cayo District.

The operation was performed between 6am and noon. First on the search list was a house on Flamboyant Street in San Ignacio Town. Nothing incriminating was found, however, a search of an unfinished concrete two storey building opposite the target home led police to the discovery of a transparent plastic bag containing 84 grams of cannabis.

No one was seen in the area and the cannabis was labeled as Found Property.

The next search was at a home in Santa Elena. Around 8 o'clock on Sunday morning a search warrant for controlled drugs was executed at the premises of the Gallindo family at number 17 Perez Street. In the upper storey of the two storey house they found a Smith and Wesson Magazine for a 9mm Pistol. 23 years old Joel Galindo and his common-law-wife Melanie Perez Rudon were arrested and charged after Galindo could not produce a gun license. Police continued a search in the yard where they found 405 grams of cannabis in a black plastic bag. The search continued and police found a 9mm Beretta Pistol loaded with a magazine containing 6 live rounds of 9mm ammunition and one 9mm Smith and Wesson Brand Pistol loaded with a magazine containing 8 live 9mm rounds of ammunition. Both firearms were hidden on top of the perimeter fence that adjoins another property. As a result of these discoveries, Minor Galindo, Stephanie Gordon and Melanie Rudon were jointly charged with 2 counts of Kept Firearm without a gun license, kept ammunition without a gun license and drug trafficking. A warrant in the First Instance has been issued for the other occupants of the premises namely; David GALINDO, Jonathan GALINDO, David YOUNG and Mirna YOUNG.

A search was also conducted on an adjacent vacant lot of the Galindo residence where the officers discovered three 12 gauge cartridges, 104 grams of cannabis inside a black plastic bag and a coffee bottle containing sixteen live 9mm hollow point rounds of ammunition. Another search was conducted, this time at the resident of 41 year old Kurt Morgan of number 149 Santiago Juan Layout. Nothing was found, but Morgan professed to police that he is a member of the West Side Bloods Gang and as a result he was arrested and charged for professing to belong to a criminal gang.
