Van Veers Unto Sidewalk; Kills Cyclist
posted (January 12, 2012)
A man was knocked down and killed last night in Belize City.

At ten minutes to eight, 44 year old Roberto Thomas Rivero was riding his bicycle on the sidewalk in front of BWSL on Central American Boulevard.

He should have been safe there, but according to police, Solemni Chun - who was driving a minivan - began overtaking traffic on the right hand side of the road, and drove onto the sidewalk when he lost control of the vehicle. That's where he knocked down and badly injured Rivero - who was rushed to the KHMH. But his injuries were too severe and he succumbed to his injuries just before 11:00 pm.

Chun has been served with a notice of intended prosecution and is expected to face charges for manslaughter by negligence and driving without due care and attention.
