Pineda: Rat Feces Baked In Bread Gave Me Food Poisoning
posted (January 20, 2012)
On Tuesday, Leopoldo Pineda appeared on this newscast saying that he had found a chunk of rat feces baked into a slice of the bread he was eating.

Now, he didn't eat that slice of bread, yet today we found him in the hospital suffering from food poisoning. He says he believe ingestion of rat feces caused it:..

Leopoldo Pineda
"Yesterday I was catching cramps, and my wife knows that I like to eat big, but like I didn't have any appetite to eat. From the day when Channel 7 and Love FM interviewed me I felt bad. I don't know if I ate the bread because I flipped it across. I normally just eat the bread out of the pack but when I reach that part of the pack I saw the faeces."

"What I didn't like is that Mark Bernard from the Public Health Department says that he sees a small infestation. When you see small infestations you are supposed to close down the bakery, so that they can get their act together. I wouldn't have been in here."

"When I come out from here I will seek a lawyer and try to get justice because the day they interviewed me I gave Mr. Bernard the pack of bread and he says that he will take it to BAHA. I didn't get any response. Public Health Department has my phone number but no response; I tried to call them to ask them about what happened, but nobody answered the phone."

Monica Bodden
"Now, you believe that it was because of eating from that pack of bread you are in the hospital today?"

Leopoldo Pineda
"Yes that same pack of bread because I am a person that doesn't refuse food. I eat big, and from the day I was interviewed I was feeling sick. I missed half a day from work because they ended up dropping me home."

Monica Bodden
"So you ate some of the bread?"

Leopoldo Pineda
"I did eat some of the bread."

Monica Bodden
"So yesterday when you told your wife how you were feeling, you guys decided to call the ambulance?"

Leopoldo Pineda
"My sister called the ambulance because they had to go for me upstairs of the house. When coming down I felt bad; I nearly dropped down because the pain was coming heavy on me. We went to Medical because the doctor told my wife that we would get the blood test results quick and that is how they admit me in here."

Monica Bodden
"So you were admitted from yesterday in the hospital."

Leopoldo Pineda
"Yes in the emergency ward."

Monica Bodden
"What have doctors said to you?"

Leopoldo Pineda
"They say it's food poison."

Pineda says he plans to sue NICE Bakery and also the public health department as soon as he gets better. Public Health inspected the bakery and found minimal rodent infestation, not enough to close down the bakery.
