Two Drug Cases
posted (January 31, 2012)
25 year-old Pinks Alley resident Marvin Brandon Bradley and 20 year-old Shaquille Almendarez, a taxi driver of Electric Avenue, were arraigned in Magistrate's Court today for separate drug-related offences. Bradley was charged with possession of a controlled drug while Almendarez was charged with drug trafficking for separate amounts of cannabis.

According the details as read in court, this morning at around 7 a.m., a police officer on foot patrol discovered 3 men standing in front of a cement fence on Munoz Alley. The officer said that when he approached the men, Bradley threw a black plastic bag over the fence. The officer retrieved the bag and discovered that it contained marijuana, which was later determined to weigh 31 grams - about one ounce.

Bradley was arrested, charged, and brought to court several hours later. He pleaded guilty to the charge, and the magistrate imposed a fine of $1,000 which he must pay by February 29, or face 6 months imprisonment in default.

Almendarez was arraigned before another magistrate. According to the details as read in court, he was caught with 154 grams of marijuana, and and as a result, he was charged with drug trafficking.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge, and - including the lack of objections by the prosecution - he was granted bail of $6000 plus 2 sureties which he was able to meet this afternoon. He is to return to court on March 20, 2012.
