Homeless Man Shot As Bullets Fly In Heart OF City
posted (February 8, 2012)
There was a shooting last night on Albert Street. It happened in the very heart of the downtown area in front of the Battlefield Park.

According to police, around 10:55 last night 20 year old Gilbert Wade, 18 year old Kendell Flowers and 30 year old Deon Lord were changing a flat tire for a white Astro Chevrolet van which was parked on Albert Street near the food stalls when someone fired several shots at them.

Gilbert Wade was shot to the right thigh, Kendell Flowers to his right and left arm, and Dion Lord was shot to his inner thigh. Also shot was 49 year old Evon Jones - a homeless man who lives in the Battlefield Park. Jones was the most seriously hurt; he was shot to the right rib cage. Wade, Flowers and Lord were treated and discharged, but Jones is admitted in a stable condition at the KHMH.

Police found 5 expended 9mm shells on the scene but still have no one detained as yet. The nearby show window at Hofius had been pierced by two bullet holes - which is odd considering that the shooting victims were on the other side of the street. From what we gathered, it was a lone gunman who was wearing a white t-shirt and stepped out of a silver car. After firing the shots, bystanders say he then ran up Albert Street.

Police suspect that the shooting could have been the product of gang rivalry...
