Last week, we showed you the launch of the Belize Unity Alliance, an umbrella group for independent candidates who are form the VIP, the PNP or who are non-aligned.
They only had nine candidates - but still one more independent doesn't want to get under their umbrella, he wants to form his own party.
And more than that, Lucilo Teck wants to challenge one of those independent candidates in Corozal Southwest.
Teck - who is a veteran of both the PUP and the UDP says his party of one - the United Belize Party wants to broaden the democracy - here's his explanation:

"All you are running right now is as an independent in Corozal Southwest."
Lucilo Teck - United Belize Party
"Yes, but then I have to express the reason why we are in such turmoil and that we need to move from present system of continuity and begin a new system, which today is global. In the world today, all democratic countries have moved from one ruling party to a multi-party system in parliament."

"Now, Southwest already has one independent candidate for the Belize Unity Alliance, Mr. Campos."
Lucilo Teck
"Now, let me answer to that question, Jules. It happens that all over, our constituencies nationwide, have a lot of problems. And then the question is this, how can we solve those problems? And who can solve them better? I'm saying that because I am a candidate; we'll have 4 candidates in the Southwest. So, who will be the candidate that can solve those problems? People will have to decide that on Election Day."

Now, you are also the founder of a party, United Belize Party, but like any party - just like a birthday party - you have to have more than one person in there."
Lucilo Teck
"Well, we have supporters for this new party, and the reason is this..."
Jules Vasquez
"But you don't need supporters; you need candidates."
Lucilo Teck
"Well, Jules, let me explain that shortly. You realize and you accept that the south will have 1 party, PNP. And Central Belize will have VIP. They are right; the north has the same right to propose a new party, or to establish a new party. My party's aim shouldn't be to replace the joined parties, but what is its aim is to be a part of Government. They must break through the power structure in the big parties."
The UBP's color is green.
