posted (February 8, 2012)
The body of a Belizean national was found floating in the Rio Hondo River yesterday near the Mexican border village of La Union. The Mexican newspaper, Diario de Quintana Roo, in its Wednesday edition, reports that a Village Council official who was navigating the river in his boat came upon the lifeless body of a man.

Police were called; the body was removed from the water, and transferred to the Orange Walk morgue. The man has since been identified as 58 year old Eduardo Garcia, a resident of Guinea Grass village.

Belize police report that a physical check on the body revealed no signs of injuries. Garcia was last seen at 6:30 on the evening of Sunday 5th February on the banks of the river - apparently under the influence of alcohol.

And, there's a report out of Nicaragua tonight that a man said to be a Belizean was arrested today by Police, after he was found in possession of a large quantity of Cocaine.

42 year old Owen Edwin is said to have been traveling on a bus headed to the country's capital city of Managua. Nicaraguan Police, who had boarded the bus to conduct routine inspections, searched him after they noticed he was acting suspiciously. Police say he was found carrying a kilo of cocaine strapped to his body.
