posted (February 9, 2012)
A shooting in Santa Elena Town has resulted in two people being admitted to the hospital - both the victim and the suspected criminal. At 7:40 last night, responding to reports of a shooting incident, San Ignacio Police found a young man lying face down on a basketball court on Carmen Street. The young man is 16 year old Jamin Sharshante. He was suffering from an apparent bullet wound to the lower back, and while the police were taking him to the San Ignacio Hospital, they spotted Blake Bradley, an 18 yr old laborer, riding his bicycle with a knapsack containing a 16 gauge shotgun. What drew the attention of the police was the top of the weapon, which was poking out of the bag. When he saw the police Bradley attempted an escape, but was knocked down by the pursuing police vehicle. He stood up and reached for his weapon, forcing the police to disarm him with a shot to the right leg. Bradley was transported to the San Ignacio Town Hospital, and is now under police guard. Along with the shotgun recovered from Bradley's bag and three 16 gauge cartridges, the police found three expended 16 gauge shells at the scene of the crime. Police are currently looking for three other persons for questioning. He will be charged for the firearm - but the shooting is still being investigated.
