And while BTL got those funds with a government guarantee that went to the house, try asking any politician where he or she gets their campaign financing - and the subject melts into mystery.
Indeed, any right thinking citizen would be correct to ask, "where does all the money come from for ads, shirts, campaigners and the like?"
That is one of the enduring riddles of our democratic process, but Belize Unity Alliance candidate Bobby Lopez wants it dispelled.
He has published his full projected campaign financials. They show that he expects to run his campaign for Belize Rural South on a budget of forty thousand dollars. Ten thousand of that he is putting himself and thirty thousand is coming from campaign contributors.
He says he will not accept any campaign contribution that puts him in hock to the donor. All donors are provided receipts for their contributions.
